Yo-Kai Watch™ is the biggest kids' entertainment phenomenon to hit Japan since Pokémon®, and has taken the country completely by storm. The series incorporates both anime and video games (along with a host of other spin-offs including toys, collectible cards and just about every form of merchandise imaginable), all centring on the series' main character Nate, and his friends the Yo-kai—traditional Japanese monsters who, unbeknown to the general public, cause all the little problems in our daily lives.

Given the central role of the Yo-kai to the franchise, a huge amount of importance is placed on their names, and the names of the characters, places, objects and key concepts that make up the world in which the story is set.

Shloc was honoured to be asked to help with the creation of these all-important names, and through extensive brainstorming sessions and back-and-forth interaction with Level-5, we played a key role in christening the many unique and distinctive elements that make up this exciting and often hilarious IP.

From the callous creature who hides the remote control, to the evil entity who causes children to make insincere apologies, to the hideous horror that causes untimely flatulence, these everyday nuisances are a joy to behold, and even more fun to name.
